The Roles of the Parish Nurse

Health Educator
Provides information to raise the health awareness of the church community through a variety of options which include classes, workshops, newsletters, seminars and supports groups.
Personal Health Counselor
Assists individuals by offering knowledge of options for health and a supportive presence for church members as they make choices for their lives.
Facilitator and Resources
Helps to identify the many health and wellness needs within the faith community and coordinates resources within the congregation. Recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers for many support functions within the church.
Referral Source
Serves as a liaison between the church and community resources. Maintaining a close working relationship with the key people in varied areas of health care, the parish nurse can be instrumental in helping church members access our complex health care system.
Blood Pressure Checks after church service in the Nurse's Nook is on the second Sunday of each month.
